Sugar Mountain Resort is Open for Skiing and Riding
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, North Carolina. Monday, Sunday, November 15, 2015 – Sugar Mountain Ski Resort located in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina is open today for skiing and snowboarding. “Today’s opening follows yesterday’s magical ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration of the Summit Express chairlift. Governor McCrory expressed the positive impact Sugar Mountain Resort and snow sports have on the North Carolina economy,” said Owner & President Gunther Jochl.
A hearty shot of cold temperatures descended upon Sugar Mountain early Friday morning and at 4:00 am snowmaking began and has been nonstop ever since.
Today skiers and snowboarders can expect a six to twelve inch base with some thin areas on a manmade and frozen granular surface. The Summit Express is in operation to Sugar’s peak servicing the Northridge, Switchback, Upper and Lower Flying Mile slopes. The full day session runs from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm. The half-day session begins at 12:30 and ends at 4:30 pm. Please view www.skisugar.com/cams for slope and weather conditions.
The Sugar Mountain Ski and Snowboard School and the Equipment Rental Shop are both fully operational. Sugar Mountain Sports Shop, located in the Base Lodge is open and features the finest in winter apparel and footwear, quality gift items, and souvenirs. It’s a great place to begin your holiday shopping. Plus, new winter items are arriving daily. If you have a group please contact the Group Sales Department. They will be happy to accommodate you.
Sugar’s 10,000 square foot outdoor ice rink and tubing park are scheduled to open as soon as weather permits. Visit www.skisugar.com/cams to see both activities opening progress.
For more information please call 800-SUGAR-MT or view www.skisugar.com for the latest slope and weather conditions. Historical opening and closing dates as well as recorded annual natural snowfall measurements can be found at www.skisugar.com/sugar-mountain-stats.
