Sugar’s Summer Festival Saturday, August 2nd
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, North Carolina. Monday, July 14, 2014 -SugarBrew begins at noon and winds down at 6:00pm on Saturday, August 2nd. General admission and parking are free. Tasting tickets are $30 online or $35 at the event. The main attraction will be the sampling of domestic, craft and import beers; hard ciders; wines; champagne; small batch, handcrafted spirits like liqueur, brandy, vodka, gin, rum, whiskey and moonshine! But it’s not just a beer, wine and spirits tasting!
Live music performances by The King Bees, The Johnson Brothers and Soul Benefactor are scheduled throughout the afternoon. Specific show times for each band can be found at www.sugarbrew.com/bands. John Carter, co-anchor of WBTV News This Morning and WBTV News at Noon will be emceeing.
All American, summertime food and drink like Certified Angus Beef hamburgers, North Carolina sweet tea, soft pretzels, kettle corn, sodas and homemade, super premium beer flavored ice cream made fresh by Blue Ridge Ice Creams are just some of the choices. The hot dog selection is crazy. Start with the Spicy Dog, complete with nacho cheese, jalapenos and a drizzle of BBQ sauce. Next try the Slaw Dog, capped with onions, chili and slaw. The Coney Dog, topped with special chili, melted cheese and chopped onions should be out of this world and finally the Bacon Cheese Dog rounds out the hot dog palette.
Cool mountain temperatures and fresh country air will probably entice you to take a ski-lift ride to Sugar’s 5,300 ft. peak. Need a little activity? Try your hand and skill at cornhole. Sugar Mountain Sports Shop’s 10-70% off winter merchandise sale will be going on from 11:00am – 6:00pm and discounted 2014-15 winter season passes will conveniently be on sale.
Some of the brews you’ll find on tap include varieties crafted by the famous Highland Brewing Company from Asheville, NC; Olde Hickory Brewery, Howard Brewing, Catawba Brewing all from just down the road in Hickory, NC. Abita Brewing from Abita Springs, LA; Oskar Blues from Longmont, CO; Railhouse Brewery from Aberdeen, NC; Aviator Brewing Company from Fuquay-Varina, NC; Carolina Brewery from Pittsboro, NC; Triangle Brewery from Durham, NC; Lonerider Brewing Company from Raleigh, NC; Widmer Citra from Portland, OR and Natty Greene from Greensboro, NC are also scheduled to attend. Kona Brewing Company is coming all the way from Kailua-Kona on Hawaii’s Big Island. Word is they have a great porter! Spaten crosses the ocean from Munich, Germany. Of course Flat Top Brewing Company from Banner Elk, NC; Dry County Brewing Company from Spruce Pine, NC and Appalachian Mountain Brewery from Boone, NC will serve up some local flavor.
