Oktoberfest at Sugar Mountain Resort

Sugar Mountain, NC – Visit Sugar Mountain Resort Saturday, October 13, 2007 for the 17th annual Oktoberfest celebration. Admission is free and parking is convenient. Rain or shine, the festival will go on!
Experience beautiful fall foliage; cool, comfortable temperatures, and a day packed full of activities from 10am until 5pm. Be sure to bring the kids because the event is for the whole family.
An array of artisan’s and craftspeople open their stands at 10 am. A sampling of this year’s vendors include: chair canning, wooden toys, oil paintings, handmade furniture & jewelry, dolls, quilted items, jams & jellies, unique pet items, copper art, ceramics, local authors, honey, beeswax candles, bird houses, an assortment of home made baked goods, and much more.
Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area’s fall foliage while on a 45 minute roundtrip lift-ride to Sugar’s 5,300 foot peak. Everyone, even mountain bikers are welcome to ride the lift.
The children’s activity center, located in the Ski School Play Yard will keep the young-ones entertained from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm. The activity center includes hay rides, an Airwalk obstacle course, a 26 foot giant slide, an Airwalk playpen, cotton candy, popcorn, candy and caramel apples, baked goods and a chance to meet Sugar Bear and Sweetie Bear. All ages are welcome to participate.
Shop for the upcoming fall and winter seasons at Sugar Mountain Resort’s Sport Shop located on the first level of the main lodge building. Much of the inventory will be 30-50% off with new 2007-08 winter merchandise available as well. Take advantage of great buys from last spring’s limited Spyder Sample Sale where 2007-08 Spyder sample merchandise is on sale at 40% off suggested retail.
An Oktoberfest isn’t complete without the sounds of an Oom Pah Band. From noon until 4 pm the Harbour Towne Fest Band guarantees to bring the sounds, dances and enthusiasm of Bavaria to Sugar Mountain. The 15 piece band will enthusiastically play Alpen Polka’s, Waltz’s, and March’s. You may even hear some traditional American folk songs.
Bavarian cuisine, including Bratwurst, Knackwurst, German Potato Salad, Sauerkraut and pretzels will be available starting at 11:00 am. To help wash it down, an ample supply of Spaten beer will generously flow until 5:00 pm. Spaten Oktoberfest beer, created in 1872, is the world's first Oktoberfest beer, brewed for the greatest folk festival in the world. If Bavarian cuisine isn’t your preference; hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, cotton candy, kettle corn, caramel apples, and other festive foods will be on hand.
Two lucky Ski & Snowboard Makeover winners will be announced at 2 pm during the Oktoberfest. Makeover winners will receive 2 nights lodging on Sugar Mountain, 2 full days of skiing or snowboarding at Sugar Mountain Resort, 2 days of ski or snowboard lessons, and of course the newest equipment and outerwear to keep! Each winner will enjoy their makeover extravaganza during SugarFest 2007 – December 15th & 16th. For the third year in a row the Ski & Snowboard Makeover is brought to you by Sugar Mountain Resort, The Village of Sugar Mountain Tourism Development Authority, Sugar Mountain Resort Accommodations, Dereka’s Sugar Mountain Accommodations Center, Burton, Head, Spyder, Ski Country Sports, Alpine Ski Center, High Country Media, and Mix 102.3.
