Sugar Mountain Resort's Summer Season Begins Friday, May 1, 2009

SUGAR MOUNTAIN, NC – Sugar Mountain Resort's summer season www.skisugar.com/summer  begins Friday, May 1st with the opening of the areas hiking and biking trails and concludes on Sunday, October 11th following the 19th Annual Oktoberfest celebration www.skisugar.com/oktoberfest.

Miles of hiking and biking trails intertwine throughout the Village of Sugar Mountain and are accessible from many points throughout the Village of Sugar Mountain and Sugar Mountain Resort.  Daily trail access is free of charge May through October from dawn until dusk. Trail maps are available online www.skisugar.com/liftrides, in a mailbox located at the base of Sugar Mountain's Flying Mile slope or when purchasing a lift ride ticket at the bottom of the Gray lift station.  Trails are constantly being maintained so please be cautious. Also keep in mind that weather and other variables can change the condition of any trail. While riding a bike within the Village limits helmets are required.

Scenic chairlift rides www.skisugar.com/liftrides to Sugar's 5,300 foot peak run Friday, July 3rd through Sunday, September 6th and operate every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 5:30 pm., weather permitting. Bring the whole family, a picnic lunch, your mountain bike, a friend and enjoy a breathtaking 45 minute roundtrip lift-ride. The majestic scenery is extraordinary.  For mountain bikers, special hooks mounted on the back of the Gray lift-chairs carry bikes to the top of Sugar Mountain.

Lift ticket prices are $10 for a one-time round trip ride and $22 for an all-day ticket. Kids 4 and under ride free with a ticketed adult.  Groups of 20 or more may purchase one-time ride tickets for $5. Advanced reservations are required for group rates. Sugar's 19th Annual Oktoberfest www.skisugar.com/oktoberfest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th - a two-day event!  The weekend is packed with activities from 10:00am until 5:00pm. On-mountain lodging specials are available.  Festival admission and parking are free! Applications for vendor participation and volunteers are now being accepted.

You will also find six fast dry clay tennis courts and an 18 hole golf course within the Village of Sugar Mountain.
